New version 18.04.08
Hello, we just pushed a new version of the game 18.04.08 to steam. In this version we’ve been fixing design issues and bugs found by our QA team and improving performance. We’ve also added a couple of new features.
Explosives
You can now build explosive barrels. When placed, the barrels tick for a few seconds as dwarfs run away in terror, and then explode. Gremlins (not in the game yet) will also place explosive barrels to sabotage your colony.
New Animations
We’ve been filling in some missing animations. For example, snakes and spiders now have attack animations.

- Fix bug that prevented decorations/cutting boards etc. not to load from save files.
- Fix common crash caused by having more than 16 lights.
- Fix z-fighting with liquids flowing on mountains (for example volcanoes)
- Fix certain trade items’ names being too long for menu.
- Design: redesign trade events so that traders wait for some time at the balloon port and allow you to trade multiple times (before, they would auto-trigger trading and instantly leave after a single trade).
- Design: redesign war events so that war parties wait at the edge of the map for some time before attacking. This gives the player time to prepare.
- Flags no longer drop ice when destroyed.
- Design: redesign “skip to day” feature. Instead of blocking the player with an annoying popup, a button now pops up on the right hand side that the player can press.
- Fix bug that prevented rails from loading.
- Tweak ladder and fence bounding boxes so that items can be built closer to them.
- Design: redesign dwarf “refuses to work”. Dwarves now go on strike for 4 ingame hours instead of randomly tantruming. They will tell you when they are on strike.
- Performance: reduce rate of grass growth to once per 10 seconds (was causing huge framerate drops in some cases).
- Fix explosion lighting underground.
- No longer draw water face artifacts on edge of world.
- GUI: add names to items that get planted.
- GUI: remove “harvest” and merge it with “chop”. Move “wrangle” out of “farm”. “Farm” is now just called “plant”.
- Dwarves swim lower in water so as not to appear to be floating above it.
- Fix unpausing not correctly restoring previous game speed.
- Fix animation in trade screen not playing correctly.
- Fix missing cursor on trade screen money editor.
- Update certain sounds to be less harsh (notifications in GUI for example, and some of the races’ speech)
- Fix broken texture loading for some fonts on linux/mac
- Performance: cache camera frustum used for drawing trees/grass. Significant performance improvement when camera is not moving.
