New build 18.02.25

Hi everyone, we just added a new build to itch.io and Steam. This build fixes some bugs in the save system, so unfortunately old saves will be incompatible with this build.

Changes:

  • Fix auto-farming. Dwarves now automatically re-plant and harvest crops immediately rather than randomly doing so.
  • Fix bug that was causing the world to get spawned outside of the bounds of our collision manager system. This was causing some spawns to not have any trees for example.
  • Fix crash while launching a “Cliffs World” debug world.
  • Fix rare crash caused by plugging in second monitor while game is fullscreen.
  • Fix “Pause” display disappearing when entering game from options menu.
  • Fix common crash that was being caused by dead trade/war parties ending up in the save file.
  • Fix floating objects while using move tool.
  • Fix objects being spawned without craft resource details (meaning they would not drop resources when destroyed).
  • Possibly fix rare crafting bug causing “apple crowns” and “bird meat staffs” and such to be crafted, caused by dwarves sharing crafting tasks.
  • Add label for amount of stockpile space remaining. Label flashes red when there is no more stockpile space.
  • Fix bear trap (it was just not showing up recently).
  • Fix bug caused by pushing ESC while moving objects (objects were not resetting to their original positions).
  • Draw move/build ghost hint objects with stipple alpha to make it clearer they are not real objects.
  • Fix rare crash caused by dead creatures in a faction’s threat pool getting saved to a save file.

Update on New Content

We want to clarify that in our last post, when we mentioned “experimental features”, that was a mis-statement. What we meant to say was “planned roadmap features.” We have had several planned features on our plate that we need to complete before the game leaves early access, and we just started working on those in the past couple of months. We are still fixing bugs and balancing existing features in our main development branch, in addition to working on new features.

New Artist and Kobold

We just hired a new pixel artist to assist us with missing and new content. His first task has been to animate the Kobold, a planned creature that is supposed to infiltrate your colony and steal your gold!

Mine Carts

We continue to make progress on minecarts. We now have a basic mine cart track creation tool, and have integrated mine carts into the dwarves’ path planning. Dwarves can ride minecarts for a speed boost. This feature still needs a lot of polish, but it’s almost done mechanically.
