New Version 18.09.16

Hi everybody, we just posted a new version 18.09.16 to itch and Steam. This version contains mostly bugfixes, though there are a couple of new features. We’re stilling working on wrapping up development before we leave Early Access on October 31st.

Palisades

We’ve added a new craftable object to the game: the palisade. The palisade is a defensive structure that dwarfs can hide behind while fighting to reduce the damage they take and increase their range. As the palisade soaks up damage for the dwarf, it will eventually get destroyed.

As a part of this new feature we also made some tweaks to combat AI. Dwarfs will now give up on combat if a creature runs too far away. They will also target creatures that are closer to them while in combat.

Auto-Mining

Dwarfs will now automatically dig shafts whenever they get lost underground. Creatures attacking your base will also try destroying walls when there is no other way in. Molemen especially love to destroy walls, sometimes for no particular reason.

Changes

  • Underground spawn option now actually in the advanced world generation settings.
  • Fixed water/lava not generating.
  • Fixed too many map icons being displayed on the world generation screen.
  • Remove “Goal system” and quests completely.
  • Remove guarding completely.
  • Tweak boredom so that dwarfs gamble less.
  • Fix bug that allowed you to wrangle dwarfs or traders in animal pens.
  • Fix memory leak when exiting game and starting a new one. Reduce memory usage of meshes.
  • Fix camera auto-zooming. Add camera timeout to prevent it from getting stuck while auto-zooming.
  • There is now a tool for destroying zones.
  • Remove the ability to combine or expand rooms.
  • Add mock up of finance information screen.
  • Adjacent dig tasks are now merged into meta-tasks for easier management.
  • Fix some rare corner cases where graphics device would get reset if you regenerate a world multiple times.
  • Fix issue in conversation screen where you couldn’t exit the conversation when the dwarf was on strike.
  • Fix some issues with shadows not updating while the game is paused.
  • Fix some wording with crafting plurals.
  • Fix issue that would cause dwarf to believe it had the resources for a crafting job when it did not, causing it to “air hump”.
  • Disallow player building on the very top layer of the world.
  • Disable auto-trading when there is nothing to trade.
  • Kobold is disabled during tranquil mode.
  • “Hire new employee” is now at the top of the screen
  • Animal pen fences correctly called “fence” now instead of “Fixture”.
  • Added “cancel” button to advanced worldgen menu.
